FOOTHILLS CAMERA CLUB
Who We Are
Foothills Camera Club is an organization whose mission is
Promoting the Art of Photography through Education and Fellowship
since 1953.
We meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month from September to May at 7PM.
Loose Moose Theatre:
Crossroads Market
1235 - 26th Ave. S.E.
The important aspect about the FCC is that we are a photography club. Specifically we are interested in
seeing photography as an art form
. While anybody can pick up a camera and take pictures, we look for pictures that tell stories, evoke emotion and inspire others. Not every picture out of a camera can do that. But when you do take a picture that you really like, do you know why you like it? If you knew, you could apply that knowledge to all of your photography. That's what our
Education
program is all about.
Education
We have several ways in which we provide
Education
. The first and foremost is our speakers. For many of our meetings, we bring in a speaker. We seek individuals who can teach us something. Instead of just showing us their work, we look for people to give us insights into how they approach their photography. This could be planning, technique, composition, equipment, style, approaches, what inspires them, etc.
Fellowship
Field Trips are another avenue for
Education
. They also build
Fellowship
among our members. This is where you practice photography, but on a trip you get to observe how other members approach subjects and look for those interesting perspectives. I remember a time a number of years ago when I looked through the viewfinder of a long term member, and saw an image that captured the spirit of the subject. My images were good, but his were great -- these days I know why, but at the time I was just learning.
